Where I am coming from

I've been living in San Francisco for the past two and a half years. I love this city and all the comfort it provides (delicious food, great friends, and stable-for-the-most-part employment). However, every couple of years I find that the city lifestyle doesn’t quite fit. I perpetually have difficulty remaining static. I find that my priorities get muddled sometimes and I'm not sure what path to take in life. In order to get back on track I like to take myself completely out of my element and face new challenges all in the hope to come back with a renewed sense of purpose and redefined goals.

My initial goal began last year, which was to have some post-workday stimulation and start the process of relearning the Spanish language. My background in Spanish began with several intermittent Spanish lessons throughout my primary education followed by a three-year stint in high school (all of which I promptly forgot). I decided to start back up at the City College of San Francisco in January 2009. I enjoyed the class thoroughly, but it seemed like I was missing something. As I made it through the first semester I began to realize the only way for me to really communicate in Spanish and gain an accurate perspective on the culture would be to go abroad.
